Small team, big impact: CEMML joins wildland firefighting in Alaska
In June of 2019, lightning ignited a wildfire on the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage, Alaska, threatening homes and infrastructure. A small group of CEMML wildland firefighter based at nearby Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson joined the response. With their specialized expertise, the JBER module has become a “force multiplier” for the Air Force in Alaska.

CEMML archaeologists unearthing human roots in Alaska
CEMML Archeologist Julie Esdale and her team have uncovered tools, weapons and the remains of bison, mammoth, elk and other large game at sites used over and over again for centuries by nomadic hunters in the region. The discovered sites are located on 1.6 million acres of land at Fort Wainwright, just southeast of Fairbanks.
